A Beautiful Day!

Build-a-Bouquet, Sweet Sixteen, Pints for Paws... all in a day's work. Starting with picking up our irises from Leavenworth Floral, putting out balloons from the Party Store, picking up our mason jars from Leavenworth Main Street so we could build bouquets too, and opening up the spa.

Deanna did a great job of balancing reception, give-a-way sign up and flower duty. Khristen and her daughter brought me breakfast then went off to build their bouquet. My friend Carmen brought my daughters to the spa, so that after working on clients I could traipse around building a bouquet. One of the ladies had a fit bit and said it was about 4 miles of walking. Happily it was great weather! It was fun and the flowers smell amazing!

Next we headed closed up the Spa and headed to Bassa Prua for my youngest daughter's Sweet Sixteen birthday party/cooking lesson. It was so much fun and the best marinara I have ever cooked. Thank you Elena, you Rock!!!

Then Deanna, Carmen, my hubby Nick and I headed to the Pints for Paws, Leavenworth County Humane Society's fundraiser Pub Crawl. It is cool to see our logo on the t-shirt. Elemental Wellness Spa donated some gift certificates and half price coupons, in addition to being a t-shirt sponsor. During our first stop at Ten Penny we got an online gift certificate purchase so we took a brief pause and processed the order then, went on to catch back up to the Pub Crawl at Knights of Columbus then on to Marfield's. On the walk back to Carmen's (designated driver and great friend) car parked at the spa we decided we had burned more than enough calories to earn dessert so we stopped by Bassa Prua on the way home.

My fit bit was at home so I have no idea how many steps I took. Each step was on a great path filled with wonderful in the form of a great family, friends, work, good deeds, flowers and chocolate. Thank you everyone!

Continuing Education

Deanna, Khristen, and myself (Roxanne) attended the Eminence Organics Regional Training. Along with information about new products in the Balance line we also received more training on products we have been using. Deanna likes the Calm Skin collection and also the Blackberry Pore Refining Serum. Khristen likes the Black Currant products, and getting to combine the product line to create each individualized facial and treatment. I like the Biodynamic, Stone Crop, and Citrus Kale Potent C & E products, and I'm currently using the Balance Charcoal Masque.

The Eminence training was a great confirmation of how much we have studied the line and its ingredients. There were many quizzes and it was nice to see that we didn't have to look up the answers. The surprising ingredient for me was the Arctic Cloudberry. Since I'm in the second year of Herbalist Apprenticeship (and Kahla Rowan is an amazing teacher), I have a bit of a head start on the herbal ingredients and properties of the plants in the Eminence Organics line. It was fun getting new information.

Tomorrow, Khristen completes her Sugaring Certification Course. Weather delayed her final class day in February and she is looking forward to earning her certificate. Elemental Wellness Spa will be open on Monday. Sugaring is an alternative to Waxing for hair removal.

We will be closed Tuesday the 21st and Wednesday the 22nd, I'll be attending Phase 2 of Reflexology Continuing Education.  Having taken Phase 1 in Lafayette, Louisiana in 2013, it will be great to see that Instructor again and to refine technique. My first Reflexology book was at age 6 or 8 at a garage sale. Reflexology was one of my courses in Massage School. After graduating, I attended a Lecture given by Dwight Byers (nephew of Eunice Ingham (Mother of Reflexology)), and a general Continuing Education 6 hour course. Total to date: 43 hours of class time, numerous hours of studying and practice (on family, friends, classmates, and clients), and very much looking forward to adding another 16 hours of class time!

Snow, icy sidewalks, very cold breezes...

Glacial Snow Inner Passage Way Alaska.

National Rain Forest in Ketchikan, Alaska.
Snowy icy sidewalks, very cold breezes to sunny days of yard work and hiking... all these and more cause muscles to be sore. Uneven surfaces combined with loss of traction, lead the body's systems to work to keep you from injury. The muscles tighten to prevent further harm. Once muscles are tight they restrict blood flow, this decreases the toxins exiting the muscle tissue... Or rather getting sore, can lead to being more sore. Swedish and Deep Tissue Massage help the process of toxin removal by directional pressure.

Rule #1 Stay warm
Rule #2 If in cold weather bundle up (layered clothing, coat, gloves, hat and scarf.) The scarf is key it keeps your neck from tightening up.
Rule #3 Sore from shoveling, relax the sore muscles. Sit by the fire, read a book, see a movie, help others (refrain from moving furniture), get a massage or a facial.

I lived in Upstate New York and shoveled snow from November to May, it wasn't fun. It was gorgeous and the clear sidewalks were worth the effort. Sunny days felt like they begged us to be outside hiking or working in the yard.

Bright sunny days, begging you to do yard work? Stretch first, wear gloves to minimize calluses, take a few moments to enjoy your work, and hydrate (alcohol doesn't count in this category.) Sports Massage helps by working the muscles in grouped categories by Range of Motion. Not just for marathon runners, and professional athletes... Sports Massage helps by working the muscles in grouped categories by Range of Motion. Occasionally, we over stress one piece of the puzzle. Sports Massage helps remind the body that the other puzzle pieces are still there and can help support the one or two that are out of sync.

Was home repair your goal this weekend? Hot Stone Massage helps the ache as the heat seeps into the muscles. We put a living room back into an open plan house and my husband said fix my back. His back said, not happening. He asked me to try, the Hot Stones melted away the tension like it was butter.

**Caution with Hot Stone Massage: they have to be heated evenly and appropriately, not just any stone works, if they are too hot for your Massage Therapist to hold - they are too hot for your back, they should never have steam rising off of them, they should never cause you to say ouch. Not a home kit item, Hot Stone Massage requires training.**

Swedish, Deep Tissue, Sports and Hot Stone Massage are all helpful to mend sore muscles. *Newly injured muscles (tears, rips, or open wounds), should be seen by a doctor.* That said, sore muscles and aches are not fun pastimes. Trade them in for relaxation and rest. Take care of yourself and mend.

Elemental Wellness Spa is open Monday thru Friday for appointments, and walk-ins as available. We are open Saturday by appointment only. I am in the 2nd year of my Herbalist Apprenticeship requiring some of my Saturdays.

We have a great staff of Spa Professionals: Roxanne (that's me) - Massage Therapy, Khristen - Cosmetologist in charge of Esthetic Services (facials, microdermabrasion, waxing, and sugaring), and Elvia, Vanessa, Nancy & Deanna - Reception staff. Deanna also doubles as our marketing guru.

Here at Elemental Wellness Spa we value education, as much as, we value helping others. We are constantly training and taking classes to improve our skills to better help our clients. It is our goal and mission to restore balance to daily life.

We are currently in the process of completing our website and finalizing our online appointment booking, thank you in advance for your patience during this process. It is great to once more be working in the community of Leavenworth.

Joslin Enterprises, LLC purchased the properties at 423 and 425 Shawnee St and the adjacent parking lot in the fall of 2014. It has been a true rehab starting with demolition, including repair to the exterior walls, as well as replacement of interior walls, a new HVAC system, an ADA compliant sidewalk, an ADA compliant entrance, an ADA compliant bathroom, also modern electrical and plumbing.

Many thanks to Stephen Henry Construction, Laven Electric, Darrel Denney Plumbing, and Mr. Breeze Heating and Cooling. Your companies have solid, hardworking crews that have helped us turn this building from the past toward a new future. Every time I have stepped into the Spa and seen something restored or updated I have been truly happy!

Joyfully, I have recently been joined by someone who is going to become my employee. This great joy is only increased in the knowledge that her expertise will continue to grow as she strives to help others.
