This morning was one of those days where things got prioritized. Some days the entire list gets conquered and some days like today something gets postponed. The priority list item today was self care. Monday I had a great massage, my body reminded me it had been 24 days. I have an active minimal desk work job, being a massage therapist is pretty much like going to the gym for an hour each massage. My goal is to be one of the 70-80 year old massage therapists, that still works on clients. That means keeping healthy for another 30 plus years. A bag of pretzels and a can of Dr Pepper are not the way to do that.
Keeping my back un-hunched, my shoulders & neck agreeing they are connected, and my ankles agreeing to move with more agility than quick drying concrete... that goal takes self care. Self care in the form of nutrients (water, herbs, good healthy food), excercise (yoga, cardio, walking, Tai Chi Chuh, massage), skin care (Eminence Organics & cutting out preservatives), sleep (that thing where your eyes are closed and your body heals), brain care (all of the previously listed, meditation, reading, continuing education), along with time for family & friends.
Herbalist Apprenticeship 101: Nettles don't help your muscles and bones with Iron & Potassium sitting on a shelf. {To make an infusion: 1 ounce (about a cup) of dried nettles into a quart jar, then carefully filling the jar with boiling water, cap and let sit 4 hours up to overnight. In the morning strain and drink the liquid.} I use my herbal teas, herb infused oils, flower essences, and essential oils often, it is time to get back to the nutrient rich daily infusions. In my first year of my apprenticeship I was excellent at making and drinking infusions. When drinking a quart of healthy Nettles, Oatstraw, Red clover, Linden or another infusion daily there is much less room for a coke (soda or pop). Replacing carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, phosphoric acid, preservatives, and caffeine with nutrients easy step toward better self care.
Healthy living is not a 3 times a week choice. Finding a way to keep healthy as a body transitions from one age bracket to the next, investing in self care by taking the time and making the effort is a continual choice. Myself, my kiddos (3 human & 1 furry), my husband, my schedule that is packed with blessings... all of us are worth keeping health and healing a daily choice.
Find a way to keep health and healing a daily choice for you.
